Description of the Work
The elegant glow of celadon glaze that gently trickles inside the La Cime Lounge PDR commands attention. The flow of the glaze that seems to be about to trickle at any moment is serenely static in a paradoxical fashion and remains in place inside the frame..
Kajin Lee expresses her own sculptural take on the traditional Korean celadon glaze. The artist creates a gleaming and subtle dark blue color through a glaze technique that she personally developed. Materials that have long been used for traditional ceramics are at last laid flat, challenging traditional stereotypes. Showcased like an ink-and-wash painting, her work invites the viewers into another world with deep shades and prisms of light that dance all around. -
About the Artist
With a BFA and MFA in Ceramics from Seoul National University, Kajin Lee reinterprets celadon glaze with a modern twist, carving out her own artistic niche. The colors of deep blue celadon combined with bold, experimental forms open up new possibilities in ceramics.
Her works were selected at the 5th Korean International Ceramic Biennale in Icheon and the 2011 Concorso Internazionale Premio Faenza. She also won the Gold Platanus Special Award at the 2019 Cheongju Craft Biennale. In addition to her many exhibitions, including at the Saatchi Gallery London and the Asia Culture Center in Gwangju, she remains highly active in her artistic endeavors at home and abroad. Her works are currently on display at the Amorepacific Museum of Art, Gyeonggi Museum of Contemporary Ceramic Art, International Museum of Ceramics in Faenza, and more.
