'Oryukdo Skywalk used to be called "Seungdumal", an old Korean term for the shape of a saddle, and it was referred to as “Jallokgae” by the local haenyeo (women of the sea) and residents. Perched over the confluence of the East Sea and South Sea, it was named Oryukdo Skywalk as it offers a unique experience of walking above the waves. Construction began on September 12, 2012, and the skywalk officially opened to the public on October 18, 2013.
The skywalk has a length of 16.5 meters and a width of 4.5 meters. Sturdy steel beams anchor the structure to a 35-meter-high ocean cliff, supporting a 15-meter horseshoe-shaped glass bridge composed of 24 interconnected glass plates. The floor is crafted from high-load bulletproof glass with a total thickness of 55.49 mm, achieved by layering four 12 mm glass sheets reinforced with bulletproof film.
